Collecting of Stamps is considered as the most popular one among the hobbies in this world. This hobby is popular not only among the school children and small kiddies but also among the elders.
Stamp collecting is unic among the other hobbies because.

History of stamp
At the beginning, the postal service was limited to the rich, hierarchy and the members of the Royal families. It gradually came to the hands of poor people but they had to get their khers by paying money. Later on, some people refused this system resulting great losses to the postal authorities. It gare rise to various crisis in the postal service. To avoid this crisis, sir Rolland Niel, an Englishman, introduced a new system.
He proposed that the postage should be paid by the person who sends the letters and not the person who receives the letter. There were many objections this poposal but, as a result, the first stamp of the world was issued on 06.05.1840. The value of the stamp was one pence and the emblem was Queen Victoriya’s head. This was known as “ pain Black ”.
History of Stamps in Sri Lanka
The first stamp of Sri Lanka was issued on 01.04.1857. it was Queen Victoria’s head and the value was 6 pences. From 1875 onwards, the stamps in Sri Lanka. Later on, they were used valued in Rupees and cents. At the beginning, the emblems of the stamps were of the state leaders but later they were changed to the things that had a value in political, cultural and educational aspects. Presently with the tourist attar active places.
Uses of Stamp Collecting
Education
School children can enhance their knowledge trough stamps as they give the pictures of things that have historical value of various countries. Thongh small in size, stamps have illustrated artistic things,heroes and fauna
Economical value
The value of stamp will increase when they go old; the rare and defective stamps. some stamps go rare when the number of stamp printed is less. Such stamps could be sold at higher prices. The stamp that was issued in Sri Lanka in 1859 with emblem of Queen victoriya priced for 4 pences has now been valued for Found 50,000. the stamp printed on the Majenta paper with black colour issued by Gayana of Britain in 1856 is the List of Gibbons that a price cannot be fixed for that stamps. May people compel to collect stamps because it gives a mental satisfaction as well as an additional in come.
